This outdoor adventure activity is ideal for families and groups looking for exciting things to do in Dorset. No prior experience is necessary – we cater for all abilities, including complete beginners and children aged 8 and above, so there’s no need to worry if you’ve never done it before you can learn the ropes in a safe and supportive environment. Kayaking in Dorset is an absolute must if you’re a fun filled scenic activity!
Take in the beautiful views along Swanage beach, from the unique viewpoint of the sea during one of our morning or afternoon sessions. Enjoy a leisurely paddle as you follow our experienced instructors and familiarise yourself with the fundamentals of kayaking as well as some local Swanage history. At the beginning of the trip you will learn how to control a kayak using different paddle strokes, basic navigation and safety before putting your newly acquired skills into practice as you explore the bay.

Whilst upholding the highest standards of customer care and safety, we always try and incorporate a bit of fun into our trips. Where possible we play water-based games, which only add to the experience! It’s really important that our participants have a good time and feel comfortable at all times, so we tailor the activity to the needs of the group and paddle at a speed that’s suitable for all. We use top quality sit on kayaks during our kayaking trips, they are extremely stable and easy for beginners.

Kayaking FAQs
Is there a minimum swimming requirement?
Everyone should be able to swim and you will be provided with buoyancy aids.
What is the minimum group size?
There must be a minimum of 6 participants for our kayaking sessions to take place. If you have a smaller group number then we will attempt to join you with another group to enable you all to get out and enjoy the water.
What is the minimum age for kayaking?
Participants must be eight years old and accompanied by an adult to take part in a kayaking session with Cumulus Outdoors.
Where will be kayaking?
Kayaking sessions take place in Swanage Bay. You’ll have an opportunity to explore the piers and take in stunning views along the Jurassic Coast. You will be provided with clear directions to the meeting site in a confirmation email.
What do I need to bring?
Dress appropriately for the weather with waterproofs and spare clothing , but no jeans or tracksuit bottoms. Old trainers are good for footwear
How long will the kayaking session be?
The session lasts three hours and you will have at least two hours on the water. Please note our kayaking trips are weather dependent.
What type of kayaks do you use?
The kayaks are the sit-on type. They are incredibly stable which enables us to focus on the fun side of the activity rather than teaching you to stay upright.
