Fun and Adventure on the Jurassic Coast
January 14th, 2021
Enjoy some fun and adventure with Cumulus Outdoors on the stunning Jurassic coast this year!
The past year has been stressful for everyone, so we could certainly do with bringing some fun back into our lives in 2021! Why not challenge yourself to take part in a new outdoor adventure activity, and where better than Dorset’s world renowned, Jurassic Coast.
Dorset has long been recognised as the adventure playground of the south. The Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site stretches from Exmouth in East Devon to Studland Bay in Dorset and is recognised as the perfect place for an action-packed holiday. With fascinating attractions and more than 364 more hours of sunshine than the UK average, Dorset is truly something special.
Cumulus Outdoors are proud to call Dorset our home and can’t wait to welcome schools and intrepid families back to our Swanage base. After a prolonged period of time inside – outdoor adventure is what we should all be seeking this year!
Young people learn so much outside the classroom
We all know that for young people learning outside the classroom is extremely beneficial. It allows them to experience new opportunities, challenges and responsibilities. But learning outside the classroom is also very much about having fun, and the Jurassic coast is the perfect natural playground.

Cumulus Outdoors enthusiastic team go the extra mile to ensure all participants are comfortable and get the most out of the residential trip experience. Our highly qualified and experienced instructors build an excellent rapport with students and gently encourage them to push the boundaries of their comfort zone and learn new skills. All activities are carried out in a safe and controlled manor with unique and innovative elements included for added fun!
There’s nothing we enjoy more than watching shy individuals come out of their shell as the school trip progresses. Wherever possible we incorporate team games into our watersports and outdoor adventure activity sessions. The sound of laughter can be heard at some distance as children work with their peers to overcome new challenges. Our favourite thing is seeing the smiles on young peoples faces at the end of each session.

Residential Centre or exclusive campsite, you choose
The Cumulus Tented Village is set in stunning seclusion next to Poole Harbour. Traditional, comfortable tents provide beautiful yet practical accommodation for students and teachers with all meals cooked on camp by our dedicated team. The camp features a large communal tipi and central fire pit for groups to spend time together in the evenings. There is plenty of open space for outdoor games and for young people to enjoy some free time as they unwind at the end of a fun filled day. There is on-site pastoral care 24 hours a day.
If you would prefer a hard-top option, our Residential Centre is hard to beat! Located in Swanage, just 10 minutes walk from the town, beach and pier, it can accommodate up to 130 students in 4 bed en-suite rooms. The 6 acre site boasts a dining room, common/ games room, classroom facilities, playing field plus outdoor activities, which include a forest school, aeroball and team games. A choice of 3, 4 or 5 (or more!) day adventure residential programmes are available with the programmes tailored to match your needs and objectives.
A combination of fun, excitement and learning is why schools and youth groups love Dorset and the Jurassic Coast. Our fantastic location provides the perfect opportunity to learn from both the past and present, with plenty of exciting places to explore and adventure activities to be experienced.
