Field studies trips on the Jurassic Coast

With easy access to Studland Sand Dunes, Old Harry Rocks, Kimmeridge Marine Reserve, Durlston Country Park and with Lulworth Cove right on our doorstep, Swanage is an inspirational location for all levels of fieldwork.

We offer a range of fieldwork tuition from primary and secondary fieldwork through to A Level Independent Investigations and preparation field work for the Common Entrance Exam.

Our specialist teaching staff are qualified in all field study areas and can deliver study topics to fulfil your curriculum requirements. Our flexibility allows for bespoke programmes tailored to cover your field study needs, budget and year group.

The majority of our sessions can be delivered on-site but we like to get our groups out and about exploring local sites along the Jurassic Coast as much as possible. Our speciality is combining environmental education with adventurous activities. These combo programs enable your class/ group to spend a morning learning about the natural world and the afternoon making the most of it!

Self led field studies residential trips

We are also pleased to offer the Cumulus Outdoors residential centre as a base for self led field studies trips in Dorset. Simply bring your own teachers and we’ll supply the accommodation and catering. The Jurassic Coast boasts some of the most famous geology in the world, and will provide incredible learning opportunities for students of all ages at beauty spots such as Durdle Door, Studland Bay, Dancing Ledge and Lulworth Cove.

Our residential centre will act as the comfortable base that you’ll love coming back to after a long day studying the coastline. We can offer some brilliant catering options and even include an itinerary of outdoor adventure activities if this is suitable for your group! In addition, there are some fantastic places to visit nearby, such as Swanage Steam Railway, Brownsea Island and Durlston Country Park.

    school testimonial

"The location is fantastic, the accommodation is fantastic, the food is fantastic, but best of all the people are outstanding. We visited as a school party in March 2022 for the first time and was blown away, not by the coastal winds, but by the friendliness of all the staff. I am not one to write reviews but I really felt my experience needed to be shared with others. Decent fieldwork/outdoor centres are hard to find, but this one was such a great discovery".
