Choose one or two activities from our list below and build your dream adventure activity day on the Jurassic Coast in Dorset. Our adventure activity days are the perfect end of year treat for school or youth groups and provide plenty of opportunity for learning outside the classroom.
Once you’ve chosen your activities our fully qualified and highly experienced staff will create a fun-filled programme to enjoy from our base in Swanage. We have the best guides and the highest staffing ratios to ensure students have a memorable day out!
Note: The ropes course and the mountain biking experiences both have a per person supplementary charge.

Adventure Activities for Schools
Coasteering
Coasteering is one of the most popular outdoor adventure activities we offer at Cumulus Outdoors. Our sessions take place on the world-renowned Jurassic Coast and involve scrambling over rocks, exploring hidden sea caves and jumping from cliffs into the turquoise waters below.
Kayaking
Our kayaking sessions take place on a private lake in the heart of the Dorset countryside. Students will work in pairs and learn a variety of paddling and turning techniques. Instructors will host a wide selection of games to improve participants’ confidence in the water.
Climbing & Abseiling
Students will conquer their fears in our fun-filled climbing and abseiling sessions at Dancing Ledge or Hedbury Quarry on the Jurassic Coast. Over the course of the session, they’ll climb to new heights and learn to manoeuvre across rocks safely and effectively.
Bushcraft
Learn to survive and thrive in the great outdoors in one of our bushcraft sessions. Our experienced instructors will teach students a range of core skills, including lighting a fire, building a shelter and foraging for food.
Canoeing
Students will take to the water in one of our traditional Canadian canoes. They will work in pairs to explore our private lake and get to grips with a variety core paddling skills and techniques. Canoeing is great fun and favourite with students visiting our centre.
Raft Building
Raft building is the ultimate team-building activity and is great for encouraging students to work together. Over the course of the session, students will build a raft out of a range of materials before going ahead to ahead another team to see who’s quickest across the lake!
Mackerel Fishing
We work in partnership with a local charter boat to offer mackerel fishing trips in Swanage Bay. With the help of an experienced and qualified skipper students will use a rod and line to fish for mackerel to take home. This activity is a great way to teach students about sustainability and where their food comes from.
Stand Up Paddleboarding
Stand up paddleboarding (SUP) is the fastest growing sport in the world and great fun for all ages and ability. Students will get to grips with the basics in the sheltered waters of our private lake. They’ll learn a range of paddling techniques and take part in lots of fun water-based games.
Tag Archery
Tag archery combines dodgeball, archery and paintball into one safe combat sport. Students will use safe foam-tipped arrows to ‘shoot’ the other team. Over the course of the session they’ll take part in a range of games and challenges.
Ropes Courses
We offer high and low ropes courses at Cumulus Outdoors in Dorset. During the activity session students will tackle a variety of obstacles along the route. Young people are encouraged to work together as they conquer their fears and complete a number of challenges at height.
Air Rifles
Our air rifles sessions are great fun for primary and secondary school aged children. Our experienced instructors will teach the group to handle the air rifle safely. They will then have opportunity to shoot at targets and see how accurate they can aim.
Orienteering
We run orienteering sessions at Durlston Country Park, a short walk away from our Residential Centre in Swanage. Young people will compete in teams to find markers hidden around the site. This fun-filled activity will put students’ map reading and team skills to the test.
Water Safety
Our water safety sessions take part in a scenic location on Studland beach. Our experienced instructors will teach students a range of beach safety skills to improve confidence in the water. The sessions will be delivered in a relaxed manor and incorporate team games.
Rib Rides
Enjoy an adrenaline fuelled rib ride across Swanage Bay with the team at Pier Head Watersports. The experienced skippers will skillfully manoeuvre the boat to give students an experience to remember. Along the ride, they’ll learn about the local history and geology of the Jurassic Coast.
Dorset Mud Trail
The Dorset Mud Trail is great fun for all ages. Students will complete a 2km obstacle course, which comprises of more than 50 obstacles, including rope bridges, swings, slides and tunnels. They will get extremely muddy as they tackle obstacles along the woodland route.
Dorset Waterpark
The Dorset Water Park is often the highlight of students school trip in Dorset. Over the course of the session they will tackle a variety of inflatable obstacles that are floating on two picturesque lakes. It’s great fun for primary and secondary aged children.
Axe Throwing
Axe throwing is an activity that requires patience and repetition to master. Students will need to refine their micro-movements and be willing to practice in order to land axes in our wooden targets. Who will hit the bullseye first?!
Mountain Biking
Explore the Dorset country side by pedal power during your adventure activity day in Dorset. We tailor our mountain biking sessions to the age and ability of the group to ensure students have a day to remember! School groups will experience a variety of stunning scenery as they cycle.
