It’s Been So Good to be Back Outdoors
December 14th, 2021
It’s been great to get back outdoors after the easing of Covid restrictions.
Young people were desperate to get outdoors once the lockdown ended. It was clear they had dearly missed having the opportunity to participate in outdoor adventure activities and socialise with classmates and friends.
After such a difficult year, the positive effects of outdoor play were clear to see in students visiting Cumulus Outdoors for a residential school trip. Many left our outdoor adventure centre with renewed energy and zest for life.
School residential trips in Dorset
This year we have been privileged to run a number of residential school trips from our hard top residential centre and tented villages. School children from all over the country have enjoyed a multi day break on the Dorset coast, comprising of a range of fun adventure activities and learning experiences.
We’ve welcomed primary and secondary school children as well as youth groups and clubs. It’s been lovely to see so many smiling faces around our outdoor adventure centre following the easing of restrictions.

Despite the hardships of the past year, we’ve been delighted with the level of service we’ve been able to offer from our base in Swanage. Here’s just some of the Cumulus Outdoors teams achievements in 2021.
- Our Residential Centre hosted a total of 37 schools comprising over 1,600 young people
- Our Tented Villages hosted 19 schools with just under 1,000 young people
- Our DofE Walking and Canoeing Expeditions were enjoyed by a total of just under 300 young people
- Our DofE Gold Residential Weeks have been experienced by nearly 400 participants
- We also helped nearly 300 children to enjoy the benefits of the Dorset HAF programme* at our Residential Centre
We look forward to welcoming even more schools in 2022!
*The aim of the Holiday Activity and Food (HAF) programme was to support children to eat more healthily, be more active over the school holidays and have a greater knowledge of health and nutrition. It was hoped that this would encourage children to be more engaged with school and other local services.
