Climbing and Abseiling

Climb to new heights on the Jurassic Coast with Cumulus Outdoors.

Overview

Climbing is one of the best ways to experience Dorset’s incredible Jurassic coastline. Scale to new heights and admire the beautiful scenery during this fun filled outdoor adventure activity. Under the watchful eye of our team of highly experienced and qualified instructors you will learn new skills and have fun, all within a safe and well-managed environment.

Climbing and abseiling on Dorset’s Jurassic Coast

Dorset is the perfect destination to try your hand at climbing or abseiling. Our coastline is a popular climbing venue, famed for having a wide variety of routes with options for various types of climbing. Set yourself a challenge and conquer your fears as you climb high up the cliffs and abseil back down.

The aim of our beginners climbing and abseiling sessions is to familiarise participants with equipment and teach core climbing skills, including moving across rocks, identifying suitable hand at foot holds, belaying a climbing partner and abseiling safely after a climb.

By the end of the session our aims is to instil confidence in participants and hopefully a new found love of climbing!

All of our climbing and abseiling sessions take place at stunning locations along the Dorset coast. We climb at Dancing Ledge and Hedbury Quarry, both of which provide beautiful sea views. From this elevated and unique position you’ll be able to truly admire the coastline in all its glory.

Suitable for all abilities

At Cumulus Outdoors all our sessions are bespoke and tailored to meet the needs of the group. We welcome complete beginners as well as those with some climbing experience or experienced indoor climbers looking to make the transition outside.

Whether you’re looking for a standard climb and abseil activity session or would like a more in depth session, we’re able to develop a session to suit your needs. We can develop sessions, which include in depth explanations of all the equipment, the safety rope systems and various techniques to hone your skills.

We also run a popular introduction to lead climbing course, which focuses on improving technique and teaching experienced climbers how to place gear.

We run climbing activity days and sessions for beginners, individuals, school and youth groups and teams, as well as those with more experience.

Awesome Experience!

Thank you Russell for this awesome experience. We had perfect weather conditions, an epic view and an extraordinary guide. After some intructions we made some abseiling and a few simple climbs. Then we made some demanding climbs which stole our last strength. This was definitely one of the highlights of our South-England trip.
Thank you, Rebeca & Christian

Abseiling on My Birthday!

Had an amazing day on my birthday with 10 friends, abseiling off Dancing Ledge in Swanage. Several of us were scared of heights and really challenging ourselves to this. Russell made us feel confident and even managed to get a smile out of me half way down! He encouraged each of us to challenge ourselves without scaring us or pushing us and this enabled each of us to feel at the end of the day that we had achieved something great for ourselves! I can heartily recommend any day out with Russell, he is knowledgable, enthusiastic and inspiring. Go for it - challenge yourself to something new!

Family Climbing

Cumulus Outdoors were very welcoming, thorough & professional. The kids loved their day climbing & abseiling by the sea. The general consensus was that it was very scary to start, but by the days end they wanted to do more. Fear conquered, all would do it again, amazing views & all round fantastic experience. What more can I ask for as a father, happy kids, a great day out, the children learning something new. Thanks to all concerned.

Rock Climbing Adventures!

I contacted Cumulus back in November to organise a special birthday surprise for my boyfriend.
Russell was really helpful and the price was really reasonable for this sort of activity. He arranged to meet us at the hotel we were staying at and led us to an amazing location. Mark and Russell were full if enthusiasm for what they do and knew lots of interesting facts about the location and history.
Mark took our session and made us both feel really safe and secure in his knowledge of climbing and the safety of the equipment we used. He kept us in our comfort zone as beginners but challenged us that extra bit each time the level of climbing changed. It was a beautiful area for the climb and the views were stunning, we had so much fun and Mark really made us feel comfortable and great about what we had achieved. He even suggested places in our area where we could go to continue our climbing adventures.
Thank you to Cumulus for a brilliant day!!!

Magical,I will always treasure the memory

I took my daughter coasteering for her special birthday treat - we also added on climbing/abseiling in the afternoon. Dean and Louis did a splendid job of looking after our coasteering group (5 of us) in the morning and in the afternoon Louis kept the two of us safe while we climbed/abseiled. The safety is well attended to and I had complete confidence throughout all activities.

I am no spring chicken but l was treated well and had the time of my life - you're never too old to have fun! I was never made to feel a drag and was enabled to achieve all sorts.

Beats a spa trip or theatre trip any day! If you fancy coasteering/climbing/abseiling then go for it - you won't regret it.
