Purbeck Youngsters go Wild!

Young people across Purbeck are being given the chance to connect with the natural world, thanks to the dedication of local individuals and organisations.

The vision of ‘Purbeck Goes Wild’ is for every child and young person, up to the age of 25, to experience the area’s stunning landscapes. The aim is to ignite a passion for the countryside, coastline, and wildlife, while showing them how nature can positively impact their lives.

Purbeck Goes Wild Half Term Event with Cumulus

Cumulus is hosting a special and FREE* Half Term event to celebrate the launch of the new ‘Purbeck Goes Wild’ initiative – a unique project aimed at inspiring young people in the Purbeck area to connect with nature and adventure in their local surroundings.

Purbeck families are invited to join Cumulus this Half Term for an afternoon of adventure on the 31st of October. Test your skills on the High Ropes Course, challenging your balance and bravery as you navigate the high obstacles. Plus learn the skill of firelighting in our bushcraft area, once you have achieved this, toast and enjoy some delicious S’mores.

Then, why not take your time to explore our beautiful centre and enjoy the stunning views it offers? While you’re here, spend some time discovering the fascinating pond creatures and the ponds’ natural surroundings!

Suitable for ages 5 and up (parental supervision required for children aged 12yrs and below).

*This is a FREE event, available to participants who provide their home address and reside within the Purbeck area. Please provide full address when signing up.

Purbeck Goes Wilf on Wylder App

The Wylder App

Kate Nicholls launched a Purbeck Goes Wild area on her Wylder App. This beautiful app gives ideas and inspiration to encourage people to get out into the natural environment.

You can download it from app stores and then use the code 2009 to access the Purbeck area and find all kinds of things to do, taking you to places you may not have been before, and learning more about the world we live in and the plants and creatures we share it with.

School Trip Support

In support of the ‘Purbeck Goes Wild’ Network, outdoor providers Land & Wave and Cumulus Outdoors have committed to offering every school in Purbeck a FREE minibus trip, giving children the opportunity to explore their local surroundings.

Sam Thompson, Cumulus' Managing Director, speaking at Purbeck Goes Live Launch Event

Let’s hear it from Sam Thompson, Cumulus’ Managing Director!

Sam Thompson was asked to stand and speak at the Purbeck Goes Wild launch event and said:

“I grew up in Purbeck – the cliffs, beaches and rolling hills were my playground, and those early experiences shaped who I am today. As I got older, I realised that this connection to nature was something special—something that not everyone had access to. At Cumulus, our aim is to share the magic of Purbeck’s landscapes with others, especially younger generations. Hopefully this will inspire more youngsters to consider careers in outdoors activities or countryside management, which will benefit the whole community and local economy.”

Sam also goes onto to add:

“If we can help, we will. One way we’re doing this is by providing our minibuses and drivers, despite the considerable operating costs, to enable children to explore the natural beauty right at their doorstep. Cumulus is dedicated to assisting the young people of Purbeck in accessing nature and fostering their development, and we strive to help them seize future opportunities whenever possible.”

We hope to see you very soon at our Purbeck Goes Wild Event at our Residential Centre in Swanage for an adrenaline-filled afternoon!
