Rib rides for schools
We’ve teamed up with local watersports provider, Pier Head Watersports, to give school and DofE residential trip groups the chance to enjoy an adrenaline fuelled RIB ride across Swanage Bay. This is action packed boat trip is great fun and a fantastic way for students to experience the Jurassic Coast from a completely different perspective.
During the trip, the experienced skipper will blast between scenic locations along the Dorset coastline, including Old Harry Rocks and Poole Harbour. They will give a detailed commentary at various points of interest to ensure there is plenty of opportunities for learning about local landscape.
Seeing iconic natural landmarks from the water is an unforgettable experience. Students will have the chance to snap some memorable photos to look back on for years to come.

Powerboat rides in Swanage Bay
The top of the range boats can reach high speeds and are the highlight of many participants school trip in Swanage. Students love the thrill of travelling at the speed while feeling the wind whizz through their hair!
Each boat accommodates up to 11 students per trip and there are multiple boats available for larger groups. It’s also possible to combine the rib ride with beach games, a trip to Swanage town or urban orienteering to create a circuit of activities for students to complete in turn.
Learning outcomes
Links can be made with the RNLI and other water-based emergency services for schools wanting to tie the boat trip into curriculum outcomes or promote water safety. There is also the opportunity to link the trip to field studies, geography and geology.

Confidence
For some students, the rib ride will be there first time on a boat. The friendly skipper will do their utmost to put nervous participants at ease and encourage them to enjoy the experience.

Water safety
All of our water-based activities have the opportunity to promote the importance of water safety. At the start of the session the instructor will give a detailed safety briefing and provide each student with a life jacket to wear for the duration of the session.

Where can I find your rib rides certificates?
If you would like to see all our rib rides information, including risk assessments, policies, emergency procedures, insurance and affiliation certification, please ask. You will be sent a link to our website with a password to access and download as much as you need.
Are you insured for rib rides?
Yes we are insured for rib rides, however, this activity is run by the Pier Head Watersports. Should you require their documentation, please let us know.
What happens if there is bad weather before the rib ride?
If the wind or swell is too strong for the boats, we will let you know at least 2 days in advance to arrange something land-based, such as rock climbing. We will always do our best to deliver the activities as per the agreed programme.
What is the instructor to participant ratio for rib rides?
10 students plus 1 teacher per boat.
What kit do students need to bring for the rib ride?
Clothing and footwear suitable for the outdoors. A full set of waterproofs. A rucksack with an extra layer, snacks, something to drink and any personal medication.
