Family Fun Day in the Woods
April 9th, 2018
It was a massive privilege to have the Moors family pay us a visit on our Family Fun Day in the Woods last month. They proved themselves as true survivors and we can’t wait to see them and plenty more families back in the woods again soon!
If you, your family and your friends fancy a go at being survivors for the day, get in touch.
The Moors Family Day in the Woods
After meeting Dan, Helen and their great kids at the base of our woodland, they parked up and were escorted in to our bushcraft basecamp. After 10 minutes settling in and having a brew around the fire, we set about the activities.
Firstly the family were shown 5 different shelters and together were tasked to build a debris thermal A-Frame which would effectively be their home for the day. After this, they all prepared their trout for lunch. The boys especially enjoyed this experience but obviously weren’t full enough as they insisted on woodlice for pudding! Clearly Bear Grylls fans!
After lunch, they all got involved in woodland firelighting and the boys were very happy when they were gifted a Firesteel each from their instructor Ian. Then it was time for some foraging, learning what the trees and plants were, what they could be used for and most importantly, which plants to avoid! By the end they were budding Dorset tree surgeons and foraging experts in the making!
At the end of a memorable day, the family were given some time to roam the woodland, play some woodland games and even toast s’mores over their fire.
Great day out!!
“Fantastic day out learning lots of new skills whilst having fun and spending time with the family. Beautiful and relaxing setting for a great day out whatever the weather. Learning about camp structures, how to fillet a fish, how to start a camp fire and foraging for safe foods to eat, whilst drinking plenty of tea and coffee.”
