The DofE Gold Residential on the Jurassic Coast

To achieve the DofE Gold Award you need to complete the DofE Gold Residential, this involves spending 5 days and 4 nights away from home on a shared activity with people you’ve never met before. A DofE residential boosts your independence and confidence and is a great way to leave a positive footprint on your life and other people’s.

It’s an exciting and very fulfilling experience. It may be that you want to build on a talent you’ve developed in another section, learn something completely new on an intensive course or do something to help others. There are loads of possibilities to find the activity that’s just right for you – pushing personal boundaries and gaining new skills.

The Jurassic Coast is England’s first natural UNESCO World Heritage Site and ranks among the Great Barrier Reef and the Grand Canyon as one of the wonders of the natural world. Awesome adventures for activity weeks can be enjoyed here, including climbing and abseiling, team games, kayakingcoasteering and Dorset waterpark

You can stay on an exclusive residential campsite with tents including air beds and blankets. You work as a team on a self-catering basis and the team will be responsible for running your camp, from cooking to household chores, and there’s a large communal tipi with a central fire pit to relax around each evening.

There is always an instructor at the camp and as well as further supporting the principles of the award as specified by the DofE, these experiences enrich the overall residential experience. Whatever your level of fitness or experience, you’ll have a week to remember!

“I had an amazing experience and made lots of new friends whom I am going to stay in contact with. We’ve already planned our reunion! I would like to thank you and the rest of Cumulus Outdoors for the amazing week I’ve had.”

“Really great week, every activity was well organised and a combination of encouragement and proper instruction gives you the confidence to really push your own boundaries. The wide range of activities were all very well equipped and were run by professional instructors. The enthusiasm and commitment from the instructors also makes the trip much more enjoyable and fulfilling.”

Jurassic Coast Trust Ambassador inspires DofE Residential group

As a Business Partner of the Jurassic Coast Trust Cumulus invite one of their Ambassadors, Julian Sawyer of Purbeck Footprints, to spend an evening with our Gold Residential groups to talk about and illustrate the Jurassic Coast and why it is so special. One of our recent groups were so impressed by the presentation they decided to donate their remaining food kitty to the Trust; a total of £52.62 – how cool is that!

Great thanks to them and to Julian!
